Headgear is used to treat patients whose teeth are in an overbite, with the upper jaw forward of the lower jaw, or an underbite with the lower jaw forward of the upper jaw. Headgear gently \"pulls\" on your teeth to restrict further forward growth of your upper teeth and jaw.
The Herbst appliance reduces overbite by encouraging the lower jaw forward and the upper molars backward. This fixed appliance is used mostly for younger, growing children and is worn for about 12-15 months.
The twin block appliance is unique from other functional appliances, as it involves two separate appliances (one for the upper arch and one for the lower arch) working together to create an advanced lower jaw position. This patient-friendly appliance is worn full time, including while eating, though it is removable for easy hygiene. It is also more comfortable than other jaw-correcting appliances, as it is made out of smooth acrylic and utilizes fewer wires.
I recommend posting the info about your washer on Craigslist or in your local classifieds. Many cities and towns also have local buy, sell, and trade groups on Facebook, which can be another good place to sell used appliances. Advertise in multiple outlets and be sure to include photos in order to get the best price for your washer!

The Herbst appliance reduces overbite by encouraging the lower jaw to grow forward and move the upper molars backward. It is typically used for more severe cases and is most effective for young patients who are rapidly growing. This fixed appliance is usually used in combination with braces and only in place for a portion of the total treatment time, about 9-12 months.
Removable retainers can be clear plastic or made of colored acrylic with a wire. Permanent retainers can also be used, which are wires bonded to the inside of the front teeth. They hold your teeth in their new, correct positions after they have been straightened. We will instruct you on how to care for your retainer and about the duration of wear. Wearing your retainer as directed is crucial to prevent regression of your treatment.

In Greensboro and High Point, residents need only call city sanitation officials a few days in advance to have their white goods picked up at curbside. Guilford County also is holding a collection day Dec. 9 for white goods and used tires at the Guilford Cooperative Extension Service headquarters on Burlington Road.
White goods - the trade name for household appliances regardless of their actual color - once made up a significant part of North Carolina's waste stream. They rusted away in landfills. Or worse, too many got dumped from the backs of pickup trucks in the dead of night, marring the view of some otherwise pretty hillside or stream bank.
The mountain is a garish blend of once gleaming appliances. Most are misshapen hulks from being tossed around so much. Most are white, but there's also an occasional glint of mint green, autumn yellow or burnt orange.
Then a huge hydraulic crane rolls up, wagging a gigantic metal claw that soon is dipping into newly discarded appliances and weeding out those that must be processed from those that are ready to recycle immediately.
Griffin Wrecking takes the appliances at no charge. But it does cost the various communities to collect white goods and take them to the Hilltop Road facility. For instance, last year, Greensboro spent $49,600 in labor and transportation expense.
